Flagler Hits Past ASU, 5-1

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State dropped a Peach Belt Conference game 5-1 to the Flagler Saints Saturday afternoon on Jaguar Field. Originally slated as a conference doubleheader, game two was washed out due to inclement weather and two games will be played tomorrow on Sunday, May 5 at 12:00 p.m.

ASU (10-38, 3-25 PBC) seniors Justin Appel, Josh Barks, Seth Foster, Aaron Lewis, Curtis Parker, Tyler Ross, and Dylan Wall were celebrated in a pregame ceremony for 2013 Senior Day.

Senior Josh Barks struck out the side to open the game in his eighth start of the season for the Jaguars. JD Sabo doubled in ASU's first at-bat and Nate Crown's run-producing fielder's choice gave ASU a 1-0 lead in the first. After an hour rain delay, play resumed and Jay Laurienzo knocked a two-run homer for a 2-1 Saints (24-22, 10-17) lead in the sixth.

Back-to-back singles put two men on for Jake Hanson who belted a three-run Flagler bomb over the left-field wall for a 5-1 win. Jake Brandenberger (9-2) threw 6.0 innings as the Saints' starter, limiting the Jags to two hits for one run, while dealing four strikeouts.  Barks (0-5) got the loss in 7.0 innings, allowing seven hits for five runs and striking out eight.

Tyler Ross and Aaron Lewis each threw an inning for the Jags, with each dealing one strikeout. Bryson Stack went 2-for-3 for ASU and Sabo was 1-for-4. Brett Moreland had a 2-for-5 day with a run for the Saints and Nick Kranick was 2-for-4 with a run. ASU wraps up the series tomorrow for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader on Jaguar Field.
