Patriots Shutout ASU

FLORENCE, S.C. – Augusta State was shutout 8-0 twice in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader to the Francis Marion Patriots Saturday afternoon in Florence, S.C.

The Patriots (24-16, 16-9 PBC) jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game one on two hits off ASU (22-18, 3-20) starter Clint Echols. Echols (0-6) got the loss in 1.0 inning, allowing two hits for two runs. Curtis Parker and Tyler Ross each threw an inning before Kip Custer tossed 5.0 innings to give up eight hits for six runs.

FMU added sixth by the seventh inning, scoring one in the fourth, two in the fifth, and three in the sixth to take an 8-0 victory. Isaac Davenport went 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs for the Pats and Rhodes Dickerson was 2-for-4 with a run. Hunter Boose, Lance Mangrum, and Jeff Rice went 1-for-4 for the Jags and Logan South and Ross Miles went 1-for-3. Don Sandifer (5-4) earned the win for FMU, throwing 7.0 innings, allowing five hits and striking out 12.

Chris Harrison (5-0) earned the win for the Pats in game two throwing a complete game and striking out six while allowing seven hits. FMU scored one in the second on Cole Morris's single up the middle and the Pats added two in the fifth and seventh and three in the eighth to repeat an 8-0 shutout over ASU.

Curtis Parker started game two for the Jags, before David Bermudez and Phil Dukes pitched an inning and Josh Barks threw 5.0. Bermudez (2-4) got the loss, allowing three hits for one run. Mangrum went 3-for-4 in game two and Miles 2-for-3 for ASU.

The Jags host UNC Pembroke on Saturday, April 27 for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader to begin the PBC weekend series
