ASU Drops Game Three

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Augusta State's 7-3 loss to Georgia College Monday afternoon on John Kurtz Field sealed the Peach Belt Conference series sweep for the Bobcats.

Augusta State (10-21, 3-12 PBC) struck first when Kevin Dodson led off the second inning with a single to right field. Freshman Hunter Boose knocked Dodson in with an RBI sacrifice fly to center field for a 1-0 lead. The Bobcats (18-9, 10-5) retaliated in their half of the inning with five runs on five hits off ASU starter David Bermudez. Bermudez (2-2) took the loss in 2.0 innings, surrendering five hits for five runs to make way for freshman lefty Phil Dukes and senior Tyler Ross.

Dukes pitched four scoreless innings into the seventh inning until the Bobcats plated two. ASU scored first in the top of the seventh to cut it 5-3 when Jeff Rice and Nate Crown hit back-to-back leadoff singles and Ross Miles moved the runners with a sac bunt. Lance Mangrum lined a two-run single to clear the bases, but GC matched ASU's two runs when Ikaika Anderson sparked the Bobcats with a leadoff double. Daniel Bick singled to score Anderson and reached third on an ASU infield error, resulting in an unearned run when he scored on a sac fly.

Matt LaMothe (4-2) earned the win for GC, limiting the Jags to three runs on eight hits and dealing six strikeouts in 7.0 innings. Christian Bragg relieved in 2.0 innings to allow no hits for the 7-3 series-finale win. Anderson went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs for GC, while Rob Hogenkamp went 2-for-3 with a run and Bick 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run.

Crown went 2-for-2 with a run for ASU, while Mangrum was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Dodson and Rice each went 1-for-4 with a scored run.
