Jags Fall At Columbus State

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Augusta State dropped a Peach Belt Conference single game to Columbus State 6-1 Saturday night on Ragsdale Field at Cougar Stadium.

Junior lefty Kip Custer (3-1) went 8.0 innings in the loss to give up 10 hits for six runs and striking out six.

CSU (4-9, 2-2 in PBC) went up early on ASU (5-6, 2-2) in the first inning, taking a 4-0 lead on an infield error and two singles. The Jaguars scored in the sixth after junior Jeff Rice reached on a wild pitch and junior Nate Crown singled to move him to second. Rice took third on another wild pitch and reached home after a throw attempt to second tried to catch Crown from stealing.

The Cougars added two more in the eighth on two more ASU infield errors for a final score of 6-1. CSU junior right-hander Zach Helewski went all 9.0 innings to allow four hits for one run and striking out 11. Crown went 2-for-3 with a walk for ASU, while Rice went 1-for-4 with a run.

CSU's Ryan Lewis went 2-for-5 and J.D. Pullen was 2-for-4 with a run. Dustin Averett was 2-for-3 with a run and Jackson Oliver was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
