AUGUSTA, Ga. -
Augusta State topped Paine 17-0 on Saturday afternoon in a
non-conference game at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
With the win, the Jaguars improved to 5-6 overall, while the Lions
dropped to 2-4 on the season.
For the Jags, senior Jacob Watson (1-0) earned the win, and gave up
only four hits and struck out 11 batters in 6.0 innings of work.
Freshman Scott Shipman relieved Watson in the seventh and only gave
up two hits.
Freshman Cole Payne led the Jags offensively with a 3-for-4
afternoon with four RBI and a double, while junior Tristan Toorie
was 2-for-3 with homer and four RBI. Junior Kenny Smith and
freshman Justin Appel had two hits each on the day, while Smith
drove in three runs. Six different Jags each had a hit on the
afternoon.
ASU is back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 23, when they host Armstrong
Atlantic State in a non-conference game at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
