AUGUSTA, Ga. -
Montevallo jumped out to a 12-1 lead Friday afternoon at Jaguar
Field and posted up a 19-6 victory over Augusta State in the first
game of a three-game Peach Belt Conference series.
With the loss, ASU fell to 10-22 overall and 2-11 in the PBC, while
the win lifted the Falcons to 9-26 and 2-14, respectively.
Montevallo first baseman Chris Sosebee cracked three homers and
drove in 10 RBI to lead the Falcons' offensive attack. Austin
Dubberly and Kevin Garcia each went 4-for-6 as the visitors
collected 21 hits. Garcia, Dustin Daughterty and Andy Revell all
drove in a pair of runs.
Seniors Tony Baker and Carl Burrow, junior Tristan Toorie and
freshman Cole Payne all had two hits for the Jags. Baker drove in
three runs and jacked his team-leading sixth homer of the season in
the third inning.
The Falcons' Heath Tapscott (3-3) evened his record,
scattering 10 hits over 7.0 innings. He allowed six runs -- all
earned -- with seven strikeouts and three walks. Caleb McLeod
worked the final two frames without allowing a hit.
ASU starter Stephen Ramsey was charged with 11 runs and 10 hits in
2.1 innings. Scott Shipman went 2.2 innings in relief of Ramsey,
while freshman Zack Breaux and sophomore Robbie Downing combined to
allow just 4 hits and three runs over the final four innings.
The Jags host UM in a PBC doubleheader beginning Saturday at 12
noon at Jaguar Field on ASU's Forest Hills campus.
