On Tuesday, Jan. 29, 1991, the Jaguars christened the floor of Christenberry Fieldhouse and kicked off a historic run for the gymnasium. Still playing as Augusta College, the Jaguar women’s basketball team defeated UNC-Asheville 97-84 for the first game on the CFH floor and the men followed it up with a 76-62 hard-fought loss to the University of South Carolina in front of a standing-room only crowd of 3,414 fans.

CFH, which opened in 1991, is home to the Jaguar and the women’s and men’s basketball programs. It houses offices for 11 of the Jags’ 13 sports. All administrative and support staff personnel for the Department of Athletics, as well as the College of Education’s Health & Kinesiology department, are also based in the CFH.

The CFH gym floor has seen numerous redesigns and renovations throughout the years. In July 2013, Praters Incorporated of Chattanooga, Tenn., was contracted to sand the entire arena floor to bare wood before having it cleaned, stained, repainted and then stained again in preparation for a redesign of the 3,026 seat-arena.
