AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta University sports medicine graduate assistant Alyse DePaola was named a 2018 recipient of the Dissinger Reed Athletic Training Scholarships. The honors were presented at the Peach Belt Conference athletic trainers annual symposium in Augusta and Young Harris' Griffin Warner also received the honor.
Both students will receive financial support from Dissinger Reed as they continued their studies. DePaola will continue at Augusta in pursuit of her masters in kinesiology while Warner will also study for a masters in kinesiology at Young Harris College. 2018 is the fourth year of the scholarship program.
DePaola came to Augusta University after competing as a track and field athlete at Duquense University in Pittsburgh. While competing, she also worked as a student athletic trainer, earning the department's Athletic Training Most Outstanding Student award in 2017. She graduated from Duquense in May of 2017 with a bachelor's of science in athletic training and began graduate work in Augusta in August of that year. This past season she worked extensively with the women's basketball team as well as with the baseball and softball teams. A member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA) since 2016, she is on track to earn her masters degree in 2019.
Warner received his bachelor's degree with honors from North Georgia after originally being recruited to play men's soccer. A member of the Dean's List for three years at UNG, he began work at Young Harris as an undergraduate as a clinical site in the spring of 2017 and was asked to remain for his graduate studies. Warner has also completed an internship with the Atlanta Falcons and is currently conducting research on athletes with multiple sclerosis. At Young Harris, he has worked extensively with the women's soccer and men's lacrosse teams and is on track to earn his masters degree in the spring of 2019.
